The Mysore Industries Association (MIA) has decided to move the High Court against Mysore City Corporation (MCC) for fixing different tariffs for water provided to industries.
MIA General Secretary Suresh Kumar Jain has stated in a press release that the MCC in 2012 had raised the water tariff for industries from Rs. 18 to Rs. 52 per 1000 litres of water and added that the increase in tariff had adversely affected the small scale industries and Medium, Small and Micro Enterprises in many areas coming under MCC limits.
He said that since industries are dependent on water and power, a three-fold hike in water tariff would deter the progress of industries and added that the industries coming under Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) were being provided water at Rs. 25 for 1000 litres.
Suresh Kumar Jain also said that the MCC has considered industrial activities as commercial activities and has levied commercial tariffs for the water being provided and added that a separate tariff should be fixed for water used for the industrial purposes.
