Mysore, Aug. 2 (SH&HT)- The valedictory of 179th birthday celebration of Dewan Rangacharlu here on Sunday was marked by felicitations to 50 theatre artistes of the city.

The function was jointly organised by Department of Kannada and Culture, Mysore City Corporation and the Mysore Town Hall Committee in the Town Hall, built during the reign of the then ruler of Mysore Mummadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar in memory of Rangacharlu, the first Dewan of the former princely State of Mysore in the late 1800s.

The following artistes of the cultural capital of Karnataka were honoured:

A publication containing profiles of the artistes was released on the occasion by Corporator H.N. Srikantaiah. Mayor Sandesh Swamy, Corporation Committee Chairman Jayashankara Swamy, Corporators Mahadevappa, Ratnamma, Shanthaveerendraswamy, M.V. Ramaprasad, Sunanda Palanetra, Asha Lakshminarayan, Shivakumar, Mahadevamma, Hema, Pushpalatha Chikkanna, Muralidhara Jetty and Ramesha, Nataka Academy member Nagachandra and A.C. Thimmappa were present.

The function concluded with staging of various cultural programmes by the artistes.
