The display of publicity posters and hoardings proclaiming the celebration of 400th year of Mysore Dasara has commenced in the city since the past two days.

The hoardings, all of them of the same design, display the royal golden throne in the Mysore Palace, along with the logo of 400th year celebration, portrait of Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa. More than 100 such hoardings have been erected all over the city and a total of 400 posters and hoardings will be displayed in city and State at a cost of Rs. 32 lakh.

Similar hoardings are to be erected in other cities of the State as well. The Dasara Publicity Sub-Committee that had become active 45 days ahead of the inauguration last year seems to have slackened this year. A formal inaugural of the publicity works was however launched along with folk troupes recently.

Contrary to the tradition of the MDJA President taking up the responsibility of the Publicity Committee President, this time, MDJA President K. Shivakumar declined the post citing health reasons, as per his letter to the DC. Hence the post remains vacant. Presently, Working President DCF Vijay Ranjan Singh is in-charge of the publicity works, assisted by Vice-Presidents T.S. Shinde and Bhanuprakash.

Bulk SMS messages have been sent to one crore mobile phone users inviting them to Dasara. FM radio stations too will be broadcasting about the Dasara celebrations from today.

The officials concerned maintained that the delay in tender process had led to the delay in taking up publicity works. However, they claimed that publicity has been more effective this year compared to the past. Sources said that more than Rs. 1 crore is being spent for publicity this Dasara, including government grants and private sponsorships.

Advertisements will be released in television channels and newspapers also.
