To enable the dignitaries to offer flowers to the idol of Goddess Chamundeshwari placed in the golden howdah atop the elephant during the Dasara procession, it was proposed to reduce the height of the elevated platform.

This was disclosed by Dasara Procession Sub-Committee Chairman and City Police Commissioner Sunil Agarwal at a meeting at his office here on Thursday to seek suggestions from scribes regarding Dasara procession and Torchlight Parade at Bannimantap.

"Usually the platform was erected at the height of over 10ft front of Mysore Palace to facilitate the Chief Minister and other dignitaries to offer flower petals to the idol. On learning that such a huge height was unnece-ssary, it is being contemplated to reduce the height by about 2.5 metres," he said.

To prevent Ambari elephant Balarama wait for too long carrying the 750 kg golden howdah on its back, it has been decided to commence the procession first and at the end of it, the howdah will be placed on Balarama.

The Chief Minister and other dignitaries will be provided space under a shade as the wait will be about two hours, explained Agarwal.
