“Poets in Karnataka are creative and have been coming out with good works,” said Prof. Chandrashekar Patil (Champa), former President of Kannada Sahitya Parishat, speaking after inaugurating Dasara Kavigoshti at JSS Women’s College in city this morning.

Speaking on the present day Dasara festivities, he said that the festival was a gift from the rulers of Mysore Kingdom. Earlier, rulers of Mysore used to sit inside the Golden Howdah during the Jumboo Savari but after abolition of Kingship, the tradition has been continued with idol of Goddess Chamundeshwari being carried on the Golden Howdah, which is a good sign.

Prof. Champa criticised the ‘Adda Pallaki Utsav’ saying that some people who had declared themselves as ‘Rajagurus’, were carrying out the Utsav which is not acceptable.

Champa also recited poems.

MLA Vasu presided. Kavighosti Sub-Committee President Prof. K.S. Bhagwan, Working President Prof. C. Naganna, Vice Presidents Manasa and Dr. Mullur Nanjundaswamy were present on the occasion.
