Chief Minister Siddharamaiah inaugurated the Dasara Film Festival at Kalamandira yesterday.

The audience who had gathered in full, had a glimpse of Sandalwood stars who included Housing Minister Ambarish, Kannada and Culture Minister Umashree, Darshan, Upendra, Priyanka Upendra, Saroja Devi, Leelavathi, Vinod Raj, music director Gurukiran and others.

Speaking on the occasion, Siddharamaiah recalling his atrraction towards movies, lamented that he had not been able to watch any movies of late due to his work pressure.

Actor Darshan appealed the gathered fans to treat all actors in the industry affectionately.

Actor Upendra thanked the audience for a deafening reception and entertained the audience with his famous 'Kaantha' dialogue from the film 'Raktha Kanneeru.'

Nine persons from the film industry including actors, producers, distributors and theatre owners were felicitated for their contribution to the cinema industry on the occasion. Prominent among them included K.S. Ashwath, MP Shankar, Mysore Lokesh and comedian Rathnakar, who were honoured posthumously.

Meanwhile, the Dasara Film Festival took off to an overwhelming response with a total of more than 2,650 cine lovers watching movies on the opening day. As many as 840 people watched 'Googly' at Woodlands, followed by 650, who watched 'Koormavatara' and 'Bharath Stores' at Senate Bhavan while 397 film fans watched 'Bul Bul' at Shantala, 214 watched Sharukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starer 'Chennai Express' at Satyam Cineplex, 207 watched 'Myna' at DRC Cinemas, 191 watched 'Drama' at New Opera and 130 watched 'The Long Voyage', 'Party' and 'Blue Wave' at Rani Bahadur Institute of Management Sciences.
