The cycle race organised by Dasara Sports Sub-Committee as part of Dasara festivities was flagged off by MLA Vasu from St. Joseph’s Central School in Yelwal at 7 this morning.
About 100 boys and 20 girls from different parts of the State participated. While, the boys participated in the 60-km race from St. Joseph’s Central School to K.R. Nagar, the girls cycled for 33 kms to Bilikere.
It is reported that girls from North Karnataka, who arrived in city with their coach Anitha yesterday, missed the race following a confusion in the location of the venue. They were waiting near the St. Joseph’s School in Jayalakshmipuram since 5.30 am today as there was no communication between the organisers and the team.
Later the coach, who contacted the organisers, was told to come to Yelwal where the race was scheduled to begin but as the cyclists reached the venue at about 7.30 am, they were disappointed as the race was already flagged off. They were seen in tears for having missed the race for which they had come all the way.
Coach Anitha said that they were not informed correctly regarding the starting point of and pleaded with the Sub-Committee to consider them.
Meanwhile, District Youth Empowerment and Sports Joint Director Ramesh, who took coach Anitha to task for not reporting to them on their arrival, reportedly said that disciplinary action would be taken against her.
Boys division: 1. Sridhar Shravanuru - Hubli, 2. Basavaraj Kattimani – Bagalkot, 3. Ashish – Bijapur. Girls Division: 1. Seema Adal – Bijapur, 2. Renuka Pandit – Bijapur, 3. Megha Hugar – Bijapur. Soumya Urs of city came eighth.
