Chief Minister Siddharamaiah today said that the State Government would release Rs. 10 crore for this year’s Dasara festivities as against Rs. 8.5 crore last year. Addressing a high-level meeting of officials at Vidhana Soudha here, the CM said that Dasara will be celebrated in a grand manner from October 5 to 14 contrary to last year when festivities were affected due to drought.

Continuing, the Chief Minister said that this year’s Dasara will be inaugurated by Jnanpith awardee Dr. Chandrashekar Kambara before 9 am on October 5 at Chamundeshwari Temple atop the Chamundi Hill.

Siddharamaiah also said the process of forming of the committees and sub-committees for the smooth conduct of Dasara celebrations will be completed soon in consultations with officials of concerned departments and elected representatives.

The CM said that Urban Development Department would release Rs. 5 crore for Mysore City Corporation immediately to take road repair works and painting of important buildings.

He also ordered the officials to rope in world renowned artistes for the cultural programmes to be held at the Mysore Palace premises. The State Government has also decided to organise Yuva Dasara, which was not held from the past three years owing to drought.

Mysore Deputy Commissioner C. Shikha, District In-charge Minister V. Sreenivasa Prasad, PWD Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa, Tourism Minister R.V. Deshpande, Information Minister Santosh Lad, Kannada and Culture Minister Umashree, MLA M.K. Somashekar, MLCs C.H. Vijayashankar and Sandesh Nagaraj and officials of various departments were present at the meeting.

Conspicuous by their absence were Co-operation Minister H.S. Mahadevaprasad, MLAs Tanvir Sait, Vasu, G.T. Devegowda, S.R. Mahesh, H.P. Manjunath, Chikkamadu and Venkatesh, MLC G. Madhusudan, who represent the district in the legislature.
