The Congress party is certain to come to power in State after the Assembly elections and in order to punish the politicians involved in corruption, de-notification and illegal real estate business, priority will be given to set up special courts, said Opposition leader Siddharamaiah, who is the Congress candidate for Varuna Assembly constituency.

He was speaking at Krishnaraja constituency Congress party workers’ convention at Rajendra Kalamandira on Ramanuja Road in city yesterday, which he inaugurated by beating a drum (nagaari).

“The BJP came to power in State by fluke as former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda and former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy did not hand over power as per the agreement. But the BJP leaders indulged in rampant corruption and looted the State’s natural wealth by doing excessive mining,” he said.

He accused B.S. Yeddyurappa of encouraging his colleagues in the Cabinet to indulge in rampant corruption during his three-and-a-half-year tenure as CM.

“The BJP will be disintegrated without a trace in Karnataka as the Ministers have been involved in various kinds of corrupt practices, immoral acts and maladministration in the five-year rule,” said Siddharamaiah and added that JD(S) is gloating with false pride of coming to power.

“I have toured around the State and found that there is a pro-Congress wave everywhere. Hence, Congress is sure of getting a clear majority to form government in the State,” he predicted.

“Congress party has the onus of protecting the State’s resources. Because of maladministration, development in the State has suffered. It is our duty to provide a conducive environment in the State for the generations to come,” he said and rued that the State’s coffers were empty because of misrule by BJP.

“Several Ministers in the BJP government went to jail on charges of corruption and misuse of power. Like the fable Ali Baba and 40 thieves, Yeddyurappa, Halappa, Katta Subramanya Naidu, Janardhan Reddy, Somashekar Reddy, Krishnaiah Shetty, Y. Sampangi and others have gone to jail. C.C. Patil, Krishna J. Palemar and Lakshman Savadi had to tender resignations to their Ministers’ posts and many legislators are facing probe by the Lokayukta. Considering all these, the people are going to reject the BJP candidates,” said Siddharamaiah.
