Kathe Kelona Banni, a weekly story telling programme organised by Kala Suruchi, will be celebrating its 6th anniversary on May 18 at its premises on Chitrabhanu Road, near Kuvempunagar Complex, Kuvempunagar.
Kala Suruchi, which was established in the year 1985, has been involved in theatre activities from the past 25 years. It has been organising staging plays, workshops on theatre songs and seminars. This apart, it has been encouraging classical music, folk music and dance and other forms of art by organising regular programmes.
Kala Suruchi started ‘Kathe Kelona Banni’ in the year 2007 and since then it has been inviting dignitaries to narrate a story for children. So far, it has completed 328 story-telling programmes. Kathe Kelona Banni is held every Saturday between 4.30 pm to 5.30 pm for children between the age group of 5-15 years.It has invited people from all walks of life such as lawyers, writers, teachers, doctors, scientists, Police officials, social workers and others to narrate stories on various topics including mythology, history, folklore, science and others.
Till now persons such as Prof. J.R. Lakshman Rao, Dr. Siddalinga Pattannashetty, Dr. H.S. Venkatesh Murthy, Dr. N. Ratna, Dr. P.K. Rajashekar, Vydehi, Chakravarthi Soolibele, M.G. Sadanandaiah, Meera Naik, Mandya Ramesh and others have narrated stories to children.
Kala Suruchi has also been conducting various programmes to enlighten children about Kannada language. Retired teachers hold classes to teach students about Kannada grammer and words.
