Around 5,000 members of the Nayaka community took out a colourful procession organised as a part of Valmiki Jayanti celebrations held in city this morning. The procession began from Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple with MLAs Vasu, M.K. Somashekar and G.T. Devegowda, MLC Siddaraju, Deputy Commissioner C. Shikha offering floral tributes to the portrait of Saint Valmiki.
Later, the procession was taken out from the Kote Anjaneyaswamy temple till Kalamandira on Hunsur Road where the stage programme was held. Folk troupes such as Puja Kunitha, Nandi Dwaja, Veeragase, Kamsale, Dollu Kunitha, Goravara Kunitha participated in the procession.
Nayaka community members from Udbur, Mysore Taluk, had a special tableau with youth dressed up as Siddappaji and Rajappaji. This apart, youth from Danagalli were seen pulling Bullock cart with the portrait of the Saint Valmiki placed on it.
Community members from the Hanchya, Udbur, Ramnalli, Veeranagere, Paduvarahalli and other layouts across the city participated in the procession. MLA G.T. Devegowda, MLC Siddaraju, Corporators M.K. Shankar, B.M. Nataraj and others accompanied the procession.
District Administration had also kept the attendance register at the Kalamandira premises for the officials to mark their presence. DC C. Shikha, Addl. DC Naga Naik, Asst. Commissioner Basavaraju, ZP CEO P.A. Gopal, DCP Rajanna, ACP Jai Maruthi, Tahsildar Naveen Joseph and other officials were present on the occasion.
