The 8th edition of the National-level technical paper presentation contest, cogNIEscience of the National Institute of Engineering (NIE) will be held on May 10 and 11.

The contest, organised by the Department of Mechanical Engineering, provides a platform for presentation of research papers by students of undergraduate and postgraduate studies.

The papers to be presented are broadly classified into five streams — Design, Manufacturing, Automobile and Thermal Engineering and PG stream. Cash prizes will be awarded to two best papers in each stream.

The inauguration ceremony will be held in the Sir M.V. Auditorium on May 11 at 9.30 am. K. R. Ramesh, Vice-President of Rane Madras Ltd., Mysore, will inaugurate the event. S. R. Subba Rao, President, NIE will preside. The event is sponsored under Technical Education Quality Improvement Program.

Of the 60 papers received, about 36 have been shortlisted for presentation. Many papers highlight significant developments in cutting edge technologies, especially automotive technology.

In addition to technical paper presentation, events like AutoQuiz, Technical Quiz, Engine Assembly, Mechmaze, Technical Crosswords, CAD modelling, Paper modelling, etc., will be held on May 10. The event provides an opportunity for students to take initiatives to learn the latest trends in technologies and provide a platform to inculcate the spirit of self-learning besides offering scope to hone communication skills.

Swaroop Bharadwaj of 8th semester Mechanical Engineering has designed the website wherein the participants were able to register as well as upload their papers online, according to a press release from Dr. N.V. Raghavendra, Professor & Head, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, NIE.
