The issue of expanding Mandakalli airport to facilitate landing and take-off of bigger aircrafts has taken wings again and hopes of Mysore figuring in international air-connectivity have been rekindled with CM Siddharamaiah stating that expansion is possible.

Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of a function at Suttur Mutt yesterday, Siddharamaiah said the Mandakalli airport cannot be expanded towards the western side because of a railway line, but it can be expanded towards the eastern side.

He said he had discussed the matter with Union Minister for Civil Aviation Ajit Jogi in Delhi recently and had elicited a positive response. Process of land acquisition will be started soon, the CM said and added that NH 212, which comes in the way, will be shifted via a different route.
