A day-long Pagade tournament for women and girls organised under the aegis of the Mysore city’s Vani Vilas Ladies Club, began at the Club premises located next to the Mini Vidhan Soudha at Nazarbad in city this morning.

The tourney is aimed at sustaining the traditional game, which is fast losing its identity with the advent of modern games.

More than 20 women and girls from across the city are taking part in the tournament.

The first prize winner will get Rs. 1,000, second Rs. 750 and the third Rs. 500.

Club office-bearers Banashankari Devi, Malini Srinivasan, Shubha Nayak, Dr. Sharada Srikantan, Jayashri Mahesh, Leela Prabhuram, Vasanthakumari, Gayatri Urs and others were present.

Pramodadevi Wadiyar, Club Chairperson and wife of scion Srikanta Datta Narasimharaja Wadiyar will distribute prizes in the evening.
