In yet another incident of a youth meeting watery grave at the dreaded Balamuri Falls in the neighbouring Mandya district, a 24-year-old student of Bhavan’s Priyamvada Birla Institute of Management in city, reportedly drowned at the Falls yesterday afternoon.

The unfortunate victim has been identified as Jitendar Nagar, a native of Madhya Pradesh, studying in city.

It is reported that Jitendar, who along with eight other friends reached Balamuri at about 3.30 pm on a picnic, was found missing at about 4 pm. His friends immediately informed KRS Police following which SI Harish Kumar accompanied by two expert swimmers reached the spot and launched a futile search operation which lasted till late evening.

The search team, which continued the operation this morning also, succeeded in tracing the body by noon. The body has been kept at KR Hospital mortuary.

Following incidents of drowning at Balamuri Falls recurring so very often, many of our readers have suggested total banning of swimming at this spot by the authorities.

Apart from displaying warnings on sign board at the spot in this regard, wire-net fencing too can be considered to prevent enthusiasts from swimming in this area.
