The mobile phone services which were extended to the Corporators of Mysore City Corporation (MCC) have been stopped in the wake of their term coming to an end.
It may be mentioned, all the 65 elected Corporators and 5 nominated members were given Nokia 3110 worth Rs. 3,500 along with the BSNL SIM card when Manivannan was the Commissioner of MCC. The intention was to bring the elected representatives closer to the citizens of Mysore so that they can contact the respective Corporators of their area for lodging complaints.
Since the term of the Corporators has come to an end with the State Election Commission’s announcment to hold the civic polls on Mar. 7, the services extended to these numbers have been stopped.
The MCC has urged the former City Fathers to return the mobile phones along with the SIM Card. But sources within the City Corporation said that none of the Corporators till now had returned the phone or the SIM card.
Meanwhile, most of the residents are unaware of the mobile services being stopped and hence they are facing a lot of problem to lodge their complaints. With the Corporators’ term coming to end and officials busy preparing for the polls, the residents have no information about whom to contact to lodge their complaints.
Since majority of citizens do not have the personal contact numbers of former Corporators, they are unable to contact them. This apart, if one tries to contact their official numbers, it says ‘This number is not in use.’
