The issuing of applications for Chinnara Mela commenced at Rangayana premises here at 10 am today and all the 250 applications were reportedly sold out in just 20 minutes.
Chinnara Mela, the annual event organised by Rangayana to be held from Apr. 15 to May 10 for children in the age group of 7 to 12 years, has become very popular among urbanites too who seemingly prefer to send their children to meaningful camps with true-to-life themes.
Parents and a few children were seen lined up as early as 7 am to collect the application forms. The counter at Rangayana opened at 10 am and all the 250 forms were sold in a jiffy.
Briefing on the Mela to SOM, Rangayana Deputy Director Nirmala Mathapathi said: “The information regarding issue of application forms for Chinnara Mela was given five days ago and the response has been overwhelming as in previous years. Today, 250 applications have been issued. Another 25 children of Pourakarmikas would be allowed to attend the camp along with 50 children of theatre artistes.”
Continuing, Nirmala said that this year’s theme for the mela would be festivals (Habbagalu) to make children understand the intricacies of rituals and their significances.
She added that the resource persons for the camp would be finalised in 3 or 4 days.
The filled-in applications have to be submitted before Apr. 5 and many parents were seen doing the same today itself by submitting the needed photograph and documents with the specified fees.
