All efforts of city Police to curb the growing menace of chain snatching seem to be going nowhere as the city witnessed three cases of mobike-borne miscreants yanking off chains from three women in different Police limits yesterday alone.
Interestingly, in all the three cases, miscreants are reported to have snatched chains from women in the guise of seeking addresses.
In the first incident, one of the miscreants, who approached Shashikala, wife of Subramanya Rao, a resident of T. Narasipur, who had come to her daughter’s house in Vijayanagar first stage snatched a six gram part of her 50 gram Mangalasutra while she was plucking flowers.

The defiant 60-year-old Shashikala, who was taken aback, clung on to her chain, fought with the chain-snatcher and in the process punched the miscreants on his chest and also hurled a few invectives at him forcing him to retreat towards his accomplice who was seated on the bike and sped away, thus succeeding in saving the 44 gram piece of her chain from being yanked off.
Vijayanagar Police, who have registered a case are on the look out for elusive miscreants.
In the second incident, miscreants, who approached an aged couple residing at D.John Kopplur in J.P. Nagar coming under Vidyarayapuram Police limits, who were on a stroll at about 9.15 am asking for an address snatched a 60 gram chain from 72-year-old Nanabai even as her 85-year-old husband K.K. Patel was accompanying her.
Vidyaranyapuram Police have registered a case in this regard have launched a hunt for the miscreants.
In the third incident which occurred on JLB Road at about 9.30 am, two mobike-borne miscreants riding a Pulsar motor cycle snatched a 60 gram gold chain from 65-year-old Rathnabai, a resident of Dewan’s Road, who was on a walk near Hardwicke School on JLB Road before fleeing.
Lakshmipuram Police, who have registered a case are investigating.
It is disturbing to note that miscreants have targeted aged people in all the three cases and many opine that a same gang is involved in all the three cases which needs to be thoroughly probed and miscreants brought to justice.
