In the wake of Supreme Court yesterday directing the Karnataka Government to release 2.44 TMC water to Tamil Nadu, security has been tightened around the Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) dam, near Srirangapatna since last evening as a precautionary measure.

Following the SC directive, Additional SP A.N. Rajanna held a meeting with senior officials yesterday and decided to deploy additional Police forces in the vicinity of KRS.

Additional forces, including 12 platoons of Karnataka State Reserve Police and 10 platoons of the District Armed Reserve are deployed at the reservoir. Apart from this, 8 DySPs, 20 Police Inspectors, 35 SIs and around 500 Police personnel have been deployed at the reservoir.

Meanwhile, about 500 farmers led by KRRS leader K.S. Puttanaiah are staging a peaceful dharna, 3 kilometres away from the dam site.

However, unlike in the past, the traffic on Mysore-Bangalore Highway has not been affected. The vehicles are plying as usual.
