“My parents wanted me to become a doctor. But I was interested in sports from childhood. I first became an athlete and later developed interest in hockey. Seeing my progress even my parents supported me. It is because of them and my coach that I have been able to achieve such heights in this sport,” said upcoming hockey goal-keeper M.P. Rohini.
She was speaking at a function organised by Rotary Mysore Midtown to felicitate her in recognition of her achievements at Rotary Centre on JLB Road in city yesterday.
Speaking on the occasion, her coach Vijaya Krishna said, sports persons can perform consistently only with hardwork. The Mysore Sports Hostel hockey team which has players like Rohini has the capacity to perform well in the State and National level.
Andolana Editor Rajashekar Koti honoured her with Rs. 10,000 cash and a memento. Speaking later, he said, “Hockey is our national sport. Have interest in cricket but at the same time support hockey players also. There is a misconception that cricket is the most popular sport at the international level. However, football is the most popular sport. And hockey can be as exciting as football. People need to develop an interest in it and attend matches. This will encourage the players to play better.”
Rotary Mysore Midtown President R.S. Vishwanath, Secretary L.M. Manojkumar and others were present on the occasion.
