The first meeting of the District Committee of Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) chaired by Zilla Panchayat CEO Dr. Ajay Nagabhushan here on Monday unanimously decided to stage an awareness rally on April 2 from 5 pm to 6 pm to draw people’s attention towards enrolment in voters list and rights of a voter.

The rallyists, comprising about 1,800 people representing Departments of Health, Education , Youth and Sports Affairs, Women and Child Welfare, Nehru Yuva Kendra and others would march from Kote Anjaneyaswamy temple to DC’s office carrying banners and placards with messages on voting rights.

SVEEP is believed to be a brainchild of Election Commission of India to create an awareness among people on voting rights.

A decision was also taken at the meeting to hold similar awareness rallies on April 2 at all taluk centres in the district. Other decisions taken were holding a rally by Anganawadi students on April 3 at Gram Panchayat levels, distribution of handbills by Health Department Assistants from April 3 to 5 to every house, declare a compulsory holiday for industries on the Assembly poll day on May 5 and give good publicity on voters rights through media and display at important places.

It was also decided to hold a competition for the best slogan on voting rights through FM Radio with prizes for the best three slogans.

Chief Planning Officer Vasundaradevi, Information Department Dy. Director and Committee Nodal Officer A.R. Prakash and others attended the meeting.
