A programme organised jointly by the Department of Public Instruction, District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) and Janajagruthi Rural Development Centre (JRDC) was held at the premises of Fine Arts College in Manasagangotri here today to present awards to environment-friendly schools in the district for the year 2012-13. Deputy Director of Public Instruction B.K. Basavaraj inaugurated the programme.

Environment Study Centre of Shimoga Director G.L. Janardhan, KSPCB Environment Officers M. Lakshman, M.G. Raghuram and Dr. P. Niranjan, JRDC MD V.N. Murthy and others were present. The best environment-friendly school award was bagged by Govt. Composite High School, Hinkal, which carried a cash award of Rs. 20,000 and a trophy.

Ten schools were adjudged as Green Schools each presented with a cash award of Rs. 2,000 and a memento and ten schools were adjudged as Orange Schools and presented with a cash award of Rs. 1,000 each and a memento. The Head Masters of corresponding schools received the awards.
