With the increased demand for managers and leaders, the number of students opting for MBA courses is also on the rise. As part of the two-year course, the students are trained with the necessary skills, understanding, courage and energy required by managers and leaders of organisations of all kinds.
However, there has been considerable confusion regarding admissions in 2013 to the two-year full time AICTE approved University affiliated MBA programmes in Karnataka.
CMAT (Common Management Admission Test) is a single window entrance test to all institutes approved by AICTE offering PG Management programmes. It is also a gateway to the MBA programmes offered by Universities of other States. The exam is conducted twice a year and the first CMAT was held in Sept. 2012 and second in Feb. 2013. Management institutions will use the merit list of CMAT 2012 for allotment of students.
The Government of Karnataka has decided that only CMAT scores will be considered for admission in PG MBA management programmes in all AICTE approved institutions and Universities from 2013-14 onwards. Only those students who have CMAT scores are eligible for pursuing MBA programmes.
However, it is learnt that the prospective candidates for MBA admissions were not adequately informed about this new admission procedure and hence a majority of them did not take the CMAT exams thereby losing a chance to get eligibility for MBA admissions in 2013-14.
Hence the Karnataka Examination Authority had put a request to the AICTE to hold another test since both the CMAT tests had elicited poor response from students in the State.
Now AICTE Chairman Dr. S.S. Mantha has said that another test will be conducted around mid-May for students of Karnataka, Kerala and Uttar Pradesh and this will not be a third test but only another opportunity for those who were not able to apply for CMAT-1 or CMAT-2.
Now, it needs to be seen if the dates proposed for the CMAT test will coincide with the final year degree examinations of 2013, putting students into more trouble.
