Mysore, Mar. 14 (MTY&KVV)- Miscreants reportedly gained entry into a house on Sreerama Street here last midnight and assaulted four members of the family, grievously injuring them.

The house owner T.N. Shastry, 85, his wife Sharadamma,80, their sons Sathyanarayana, 48 and Prasad, 38 were allegedly attacked with lethal weapons by the miscreants.

Shastry is said to be working as a priest in a Palace temple and his two sons are said to be mentally challenged. The neighbours, on hearing the groans from inside the house this morning, entered the house and shifted the injured persons to hospital.

The Police have recovered an iron rod in a nearby drain and also a sharp knife at the spot purportedly used by the miscreants to assault Shastry and his family members.

The Police noticed stains of blood on the walls and floor in the hall and the bathroom, suggesting that there might have been strong resistance from Shastry and his family members when they were physically attacked.

ACP Vishnuvardhan, K.R. Police Inspector Srinivasa, Sub-Inspector Ravikumar and staff visited the spot and conducted spot inspection.

Finger print experts and a dog squad were also pressed into service. Further investigation is on.

Old enmity is said to be the cause behind the attack, according to the Police who have ruled out the possibility of theft or burglary.
