Vinod Kumar, Divisional Railway Manager, South Western Railway (SWR), Mysore Division, yesterday launched additional facilities to commuters including Version 2.0 of the web portal for Mysore Railway Station under the new domain name www.mysorerailwaystation.in.
Real-time tracking of trains running on Indian Railway network will be possible with a click on the mouse besides several operation-specific external links (PNR status, fare enquiry, trains between two destinations, seat availablity, etc,) with proper indexing and is simple to navigate.
It will now be easier for rail commuters to track trains on real-time basis by just entering the train number or train name and the new web app called RailRadar, using Google Maps, will spot the train. The entire route of the train from source to destination of a particular train with scheduled stoppages will also be shown.
On the occasion, the electronic display systems installed at Mysore Railway station by KSRTC under their ambitious GPS-based Intelligent Transport System (ITS) was also launched. It will show real-time arrival and departure information of KSRTC buses at the bus stand adjacent to railway station for the benefit of rail users.
The project covers 500 buses, 80 bus stops and 10 terminals.
It will have several components including vehicle tracking system, central control station, passenger information management system, communication sub-system, travel demand management, incident & emergency management system, operational and maintenance specification and fleet management system using GPS which has many benefits, including the reduction of waiting time, fuel consumption, traffic congestion and operational costs.
State Bank of Mysore, under their Community Service Scheme, donated four high quality wheel chairs for the use of senior citizens and differently-abled/sick passengers at Mysore Railway Station.
Dr.Anup Dayanand Sadhu, Sr. Divisional Commercial Manager, SWR, Mysore Division, said that Indian Railways despite serious financial crunch had been in the forefront in the service of common man with more facilities being provided for users.
He also stated that Automatic Ticket Vending Machines will be installed shortly at Mysore Railway Station which will speed-up ticket dispensation.
