Water Resources Minister M.B. Patil yesterday said that he would look into the allegations of illegal toll collection at Hale Kannambadi village enroute to KRS dam by a local politician in collusion with officials.
He was replying to a query from MLC G. Madhusudhan in the Legislative Council, who said that the State had constructed a new bridge at a cost of Rs. 11.48 crore in 2002 but a local politician was illegally collecting toll, causing severe loss to the exchequer. In his reply, Patil reacted by saying that action would be taken against illegal toll collection and culprits would be brought to book.
‘Jala Samvardhana’ project
The Minister also said that the Government would revive the ‘Jala Samvardhana’ project in the Cauvery basin to ensure adequate water storage to meet the requirements of the region.
Madhusudan also sought release of water from dams to minor reservoirs and lakes to help farmers of the region, to which the Minister said the Govt. would seek funds from World Bank.
