Nandan Nilekani, Chairman, Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), this morning held a review meeting at the Government Guest House in city, to know the progress of issuing of Aadhar cards and the schemes relating to LPG Direct Cash Transfer scheme in the district.
The meeting which was attended by UIDAI Regional Dy. Director General Dr. Ashok Dalwai, Regional Asst. Dy. Director General K.K.Sharma, Govt. of Karnataka’s Centre for E-Governance CEO Dr. Ravindran, DC Dr. Ramegowda, Indianoil Corporation General Manager-LPG division U.V.Mannur and others discussed the issues.
Nandan Nilekani, speaking to SOM, said Aadhar cards were being used for 16 govt. schemes and projects in Mysore, Tumkur and Dharwad districts.
He said that out of 28 lakh population in Mysore district, only about 3 to 5% have to yet enrol for Aadhar card, mostly in rural areas because of problem in connectivity and added that it would be resolved soon.
Speaking of Direct Cash Transfer for LPG consumers, he said the banks have been working on the project. Banks have been instructed to open separate counters for the purpose, he said and added that e-Aadhar Centres will be opened at all Mysore One centres where Aadhar cards will be distributed.
Nilekani also said that GIS mapping would be linked to e-Aadhar Centres, banks, LPG distributers and consumers soon and added that Aadhar is a card which is used to get government benefits and is not an identification card.
He said that people need not panic if they do not have Aadhar cards and asked them to approach e-Aadhar Centres for help and added that 2,41000 Aadhar cards out of 5 lakh have been already distributed.
