Mysore, Mar. 12 (HT&DM) Four car-borne miscreants robbed an oil merchant of Rs.7.75 lakh in broad daylight at 10th main road, Saraswathipuram here last afternoon.

K.Manohar, oil merchant and proprietor of Chamundeswari Agencies, had alighted from a KSRTC Airavata bus (coming from Madikeri) with cash amounting to Rs. 7.75 lakh in a cloth bag slung around his neck. He then got into an autorickshaw at Paduvarahalli at around 3.30 pm enroute to his house in Saraswathipuram. The auto driver Manju’s friend, Raju too boarded the auto (KA 09 A 9299). Incidentally, Manju was known to Manohar.

When they reached Manohar’s house, four unidentified men in a green coloured Santro drove up and attempted to grab the bag containing the cash by throwing chilli powder at his face. In the brief struggle, Manohar slipped and fell even as the bag dropped to the ground and was snatched by one of the men and the foursome made their getaway in the car.

Manohar called out to onlookers for help and it took them a while to realize that the man had been robbed. Meanwhile, Sara-swathipuram Police Inspector Siddaraju arrived on scene and collected information about the robbery from onlookers and the modus operandi of the four men.

It is learnt the number plate of the car had been defaced and it was also discovered that a similar car had been left at Ultra Car Service Centre in Kuvempunagar. Police have spread a dragnet across the vital points of city and hope for a breakthrough soon.
