Eleven persons involved in various crimes in city, who were arrested by the City Police in the past six months and valuables worth Rs. 53 lakh seized from them, were produced before the court today which remanded them to judicial custody.
Earlier, City Police Commissioner Dr. M.A. Saleem, addressing a press conference at his office in Nazarbad this morning, said that the Police department has intensified investigations into various crimes and added that several of the accused were wanted in multiple crimes of chain-snatching, attention diversion and robbing, car thefts and bike thefts.
The valuables worth Rs. 53 lakh confiscated from the accused comprised cash, gold ornaments, cars, motorbikes, laptops and other gadgets.
While three cases each came under the Devaraja and Metagalli Police Stations, two cases each are from V.V. Puram and Vijayanagar Police Station limits and one from Nazarbad Police limits.
One of the accused is Deepak, 26, a resident of Hootagalli. His modus operandi is to approach a home-alone woman whom he had been watching for some days, tell her that her husband or some other relative met with an accident and under the pretext of taking her to the spot, robs her of her valuables at an isolated spot.
Another accused Muniraju, 37, is a native of Hosur taluk, Krishnagiri district in Tamil Nadu. He used to pretend as a government official and drive a Renault Duster car. He would show vacant sites of prime value to prospective buyers in his laptop. He would then collect money from them to book the sites in their names and if they did not have cash, he would take gold jewels as surety. The Police have seized valuables worth Rs. 20,43,000 from him, which comprises cash, gold jewels, the car, laptop and mobile phone.
In Vijayanagar, three persons were arrested for stealing five motorbikes worth Rs. two lakh. The accused are Shivakumar, Manikanta and Paul Victor.
Divakar was arrested for theft of gold chains in Kuvempunagar Police jurisdiction. In the same jurisdiction, three women were arrested for stealing a 27 gram gold chain from Shankara Chetty Jewellery shop. They are Bharathi, Leela and Roopa.
Darshan alias Pillai of Janatha Nagar has been arrested on charges of stealing gold chains, coming under Saraswathipuram Police Station.
Devaraja Inspector Kantharaju, Sub-Inspector Lepaksha, Asst. Sub-Inspector Puttarajappa and others played active roles in arresting the accused.
