Last evening, the Mayor Sandesh Swamy announced that there would be a special commemorative coin for the 400th year of Mysore Dasara.
He held up a silver coin in one hand and in the other hand a logo design. But surprisingly, the designer of the logo was unaware that his design had been taken until he saw it in the paper this morning.
The artist Raghu Dharmendra of Ramsons Kala Pratishtana, said the logo design was given to the Mayor and the district administration officials two months ago and nothing happened. "They seemed uninterested that it was the 400th year of Dasara."
He then added, "The Mayor had come to my office when I was out of town and took the logo. I realised it only this morning after seeing the papers. But it's ok. I am glad they liked my design. I hope at least now they will do something special for the 400th year of Dasara."
Raghu had designed the logo for his own private booklet he was putting together about Dasara.
Raghu says he wanted to depict the spirit of 'Dasara' in the logo and 'Jumboo Savari' seemed apt as it 'conjures up Mysore Dasara' in our minds.
